Insert a loop of rope through the cleat hole.

Bend the loop over the top of the cleat and tighten.

Push the rope between the knob and the guide post and wrap rope around the jam cleat.

After adjusting the tension on the rope, hook the end under the guide post.

Note: When fastening the fixed end (step 1) for high loading and no slip, make a twist on the rope loop as shown, so that the loaded end will wrap around the second leg of the cleat. The cleat is designed to hold without slipping in this configuration, and may slip with some friction if there is no twist, particularly with smaller diameter rope.
